insight tires
the stock 165/65/14 bridestone is almost gone, and i think they arent so great to begin with and are pricey for 14's. . so i plan to look for other tires. i also noticed that nearly no other tire makers make this size, so i was wondering if anyone tried to put something a bit wider?
i was thinking 175/65/14.. but not sure if the rears will rub..feedback plz.

Yes, people have used 175/65/R-14s without having rubbing problems.
Whatever you choose will likely decrease your mpg slightly since they won't be Low Rolling Resistance tires. But you will have more choices in handling characteristics.

___As far as the mileage hit, oh boy. Are you pushing for max mileage or just kind of starting her up and driving with your FCD meters turned off? If you drive for the former, anything but the RE92’s will take at least 5 mpg off you tally and that is being kind. If you drive like the latter, about what Eric mentioned. You should receive better wet traction, better dry traction, and better handling with another brand tire but an Insight was designed for one purpose and that was maximum FE. The OEM tires selected are part of the design and a change to it will cost you in some respects.

thanks for the reply, i live in western canada.. we have lots of rain here. and in winter, snow. summer is short lived. so i was hoping something with a bit of traction would pay off in the safety department.

Usually they have a sale at least once a year where you get $60 for a set of tires.

Basically I just took it as a buy 3 get one free deal and didn't worry about the "missing" $20. It was still a good deal.
I could have called customer service to try to get the extra $20 but didn't. I figured they might want to change the "error" of the $48.99 price and try to change it back to $59.99.
In any case, here is the Costco tire price I got when checking on their site.
I went to the Costco Website and it came up as total price as
$226.57 installed.
Here's the breakdown:
Per tire
$48.99 tire
$1.00 disposal fee
$10.00 installation package
$2.50 State fee (your state may not have this)
Multiply this by four and you get...
$249.96 subtotal
Add
$12.48 Non-member surcharge
$13.12 Tax
subtract ($48.99) Coupon - (this automatically showed up)
$226.57 ORDER TOTAL
There is not a Costco near me so I took the Web Page print out to a
local Tires Plus that has a set of tires in stock and they PRICE
MATCHED! Good deal, since Tires Plus originally wanted $81.62 PER
TIRE installed. (before tax)
For the price match deal it worked out, before tax, to be $53.36 per
tire installed! ($226.57 - $13.12 = 213.45. Divide by 4 equals 53.36)
