just bought new '05 Insight
Hi all,
I posted in the new members intro forum so won't duplicate it here... but a month ago my husband and I purchased a red 2005 Insight CVT. With our now extended commutes it didn't make sense for him to drive his 1998 Pathfinder and me to drive my 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder (a very fun car, love it). I drive 40 miles one way and his new job is 60 miles one way, so I sold my beloved MR2 ( ) and we commute together in the Insight and park the Pathfinder (haven't used it in a month).
So far I like the car quite a bit (although no comparison to the zippy MR2) but I've always had (and prefer) small 2-seaters so the 'noise' isn't an issue with me or being shorter than all the SUV's out there. I live near San Jose, CA and we're both engineers so the techie-ness of the car is appealing to us (and not paying $500/month for gas on the Pathfinder).
Anyway, I'll keep reading and posting as time goes on.... My husband is an electrical engineer and specializes in power supplies so he knows he can fix the batteries if something goes wrong (he's already studied the schematics and is impressed with their design) Apparently CA has the huge majority of hybrids, like 100x what the other states have (so I read in an article recently comparing registrations on a state by state basis). It stated CA had something like 25,000 in 2005 and next highest state was VA with around 4,000 registrations.

Congratulations! It sounds like the Insight is an excellent fit for you. These are excellent cars but not for everyone. You got it just in time to smirk at the balooning gas prices too.
