2004 Civic Hybrid: worth it to fix and sell, or should I just sell?
I have a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid with a hybrid battery that has end-of-life'd. I noticed that because most 2004 Honda Civic Hybrids have been suddenly falling off the map for the last couple years because their hybrid batteries are end-of-life'ing, the Kelly Blue Book value went down to something like $1,200 (where it was more than $7,000 just a year ago), since having the dealership replace the hybrid battery costs around $5,000.
Meanwhile I've already replaced this car with a 2016 Subaru WRX (quite an upgrade, to say the least).
So I'm trying to figure out what to do with the old 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid. If I sell it as it is--just replace the 12V and charge the 12V and cross my fingers ("just charge the 12V and drive it like a regular Civic")--I'll surely get something like $1,200-$2,000 out of it. But if I buy a new rebuilt hybrid battery, and maybe install it myself, that'll set me back around $1,500-$2,500, but will it bring the value of the car back up to $6,000-$7,000?? Thoughts??

Where are you?
What codes are being reported?
Shop around. You should be able to get a dealer pack much closer to $3K... but you shouldn't buy a dealer pack because the new Honda cells are **** for reliable.
No 12 year old HCH is worth 6-7K, nor has it been for the last 3 years. Not sure of your location, but 3-4K is pretty typical in AZ and has been for about 1.5 years. A new pack WITH a transferrable warranty will probably put the value at top kbb + $500-1000 for someone that WANTS a HCH.
Hybrid ReVolt is based in this area, and he sells these periodically with a limited warranty on the pack. I've never seen one for more than $4K.
If you're in California, you may be prohibited from selling it because you can't supply a valid smog certificate.
