2007 Honda Civic IMA. Help IMA light but system working

i guys

i have a 2007 Honda Civic IMA and I am experiencing some issues which I’m hoping someone could help with.

When i I start the car the hybrid battery goes down to 2 bars and then charges up after a few min to full.

I have had a look online and appears there may be some battery damage. But could it be something else?

The engine check light light does not come on but sometimes the IMA light does. But once I switch off the car and start again the IMA light goes out.

The car car still shows as battery assist is active and charging as well.

It’s my first hybrid so don’t know much about the cars. It was just purchased as a cheap runner so I’m not too bothered but would be nice to know if it’s something I can fix my self.

Thanks in advance

Re: 2007 Honda Civic IMA. Help IMA light but system working

Based purely on your description, and my history with these cars:
1% chance your 12V battery is going bad/is weak (this will also frequently include the red 12V battery light)
1% chance your ground straps are causing it (this will also frequently include the red 12V battery light)
97% chance your HV battery is failing as the 2 bar indicator is a negative recalibration.
1% chance it's something else.

If you're in the U.S., I recommend you take it to O'Reilly Auto parts (nowhere else) and have them check the codes for you. Get the CODES. Don't accept the description.

If you're not in the U.S., check the codes via some other method.

This process describes how you can "blink" the codes by shorting the pins shown and counting long/short blinks of the CEL and IMA lights:

Note that the codes listed there are NOT applicable to your model. Report back with the blinks.

Good luck,

Steve
