Question Civic 2014 touch panel wants code after charging 12 volt battery

Hi,
I put a charger on the dead 12 volt battery (had left trunk open with light). After an hour or so the car started, but the flat panel had a 10 key display wanting some code to be entered. Can't find an explanation in the owners manual. Clues? Thought I'd try this before calling the dealer. Luckily we have also a 2013 we could use instead when the 2014 wouldn't start.

It's not the charging that triggered it, it's the dead 12V that did it.

Owner's manual, page 151.

Audio System Theft Protection
The audio system is disabled when it is disconnected from the power source, such as when the battery is disconnected or goes dead. In certain conditions, the system may display Enter Code. If this occurs, reactivate the audio system.

■ Reactivating the audio system
1. Set the power mode to ON.
2. Turn on the audio system.
3. Press and hold the audio system power button for more than two seconds.

The audio system is reactivated when the audio control unit establishes a
connection with the vehicle control unit. If the control unit fails to recognize
the audio unit, you must go to a dealer and have the audio unit checked.

I saw this manual page, but pressing the audio button as indicate eventually took me back to the same screen with a keypad wanting a code. Aghhh!

I suspect your 12V is bad.

Why did the 12V go dead?

Did you charge it meaningfully (2A or higher for MANY hours), or did you use some < 1A trickle charger?

What is the resting battery voltage after sitting for >10 hours?
