Question Do Spoilers affect Efficiency Greatly?

I was toying with adding on the front, rear and maybe side spoilers to an 07 HCH. What do you think will be the affect from both contour and weight on gas mileage?

I doubt it'll change your gas mileage much at all, but you better not make the thing look like a @#$%&( rice job.

A well-designed spoiler does have a significant impact on FE. (Note: significant means measurable, not huge.) On the front it's a matter of balancing the pressure on the forward-facing surfaces vs. drag due to the under carriage. There are other aerodynamic issues like drag due to engine cooling. On the rear it's all about minimizing the low pressure regions that tend to "suck" the car backward as you drive forward through the air. You can do that in some cases with an extremely carefully designed lip spoiler.

Thing is, Honda already did this for you. They probably spent months on CFD analysis and eventually real wind tunnel testing to get it just right. There isn't likely to be a real way to reduce drag unless you have access to lots of expensive toys and an advanced engineering degree.

I guess what I wanted to know is should I or should I not have them install these on the car? Also, should I just wait (after market) to put things like leather steering wheel cover and gauge trim or try to talk 'em down on it during the deal?

Thanks in advance,
John

Also, I'm still wondering why a dealer in Oklahoma City is offering a 2007 non-navi for 20845?

I would have the Dealer install the spoilers and steering wheel cover. You will get a better deal if it were done before you pickup the new car.
