Cool Glowing Hybrid Logo

Official comment: Ouch Ouch Ouch!

Ok if anyone else gets this bright idea, remember that the transformer is converting your 12 volts into 110+-, and if you touch the edges it feels like being hit by a stun gun.

I have a long way to go before this ends up on the back of my HCH, namely waterproofing, but I took this preliminary picture to get the feel of what it will eventually look like.

ouch.

I wonder if you painted it with clear coat or something it would protect it from the weather as well as prevent a shock from touching it.

I don't know if it would work or not, its just an idea I had.

Using an electroluminescent sheet by chance?

A healthy application of a Krylon spray should be able to do the trick for the waterproofing.

Love it! If something like this was an option or aftermarket purchase... I'd likely buy it.

Yep, it's an electroluminescent sheet, available off eBay for $12-$22 USD. I learned the hard way that the layers in the sheet are not strongly bonded together, so they will peel apart if your not careful. I've ripped it all off and am starting over again. This time I'm going to place the EL sheet with the glowing side AWAY from the logo (so it'll eventually face the vehicle). I then plan on placing either a layer of the recommended krylon spray on top of it, or a layer of clear 2-ton epoxy... Then I'll try sanding it down so it's flat. HOPEFULLY this will only raise the badge up 1-2mm more than it was stock, and with the EL sheet facing the car then it SHOULD give a snazzy glowing effect again.

If you cold make it solar powered or something that would be cool. It would be nice if there was a way to make it self contained and self powered.
