Officially Official: Connaught Type D V10 hybrid sports car unveiled

For some reason, there is something about the island of Britain that makes small cottage industry carmakers pop up like weeds. A surprising number of these low-volume makers have actually managed and to varying degrees even thrive over the past 120 years, including the likes of Morgan, Aston Martin and Lotus. Among the lesser known at least outside of the UK is Connaught. Last year Connaught announced plans to build a hybrid sports car called the Type D hybrid, which have official pics for the first time today.

The Type D has some very interesting specs including fuel efficiency of 35mpg (US) and 0-60 time of 6.2 seconds. The attractive little coupe has an unusual drivetrain including a 2.0L V-10 combined with super capacitors. A non-hybrid version with a supercharged version of that tiny V-10 cranking out 300hp will also be available. The cars will go into production at a new plant in Wales and customer deliveries are due to start early next year. AutoblogGreen has a gallery of high res photos of the new car.

How big can the piston in a 2.0L V-10 be? The size of your thumb? I would assume this thing would have terrible friction losses from all the extra surface contact a V-10 of this size would have compared to a straigt 4 cylinder.
