2009 Honda Civic Hybrid Hypermiling

I purchased a Honda Civic Hybrid (2009) about a year ago and have been trying to get better gas mileage. What are some tips on getting better gas mileage from those who are doing well with mileage?

Re: 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid Hypermiling

I do not do hypermiling.
However what I have done with my 2010 Prius is the following (all of which is pretty run of the mill stuff) but does allow me to get in the 60 mpg range without AC ( I live in Phx., Az., so summers mean lower gas mileage)
1.Avoid high speed routes around town such as freeways limited access highways.
2.Select routes with 45 - 50 speed limits (as this seems to be the best speed for mpg)
3.To the extent possible time signal lights, avoid braking and coast whenever possible.
4.When going up hills allow the car to slow down somewhat and I often try to coast over the crest of the hill.
5.Run without AC when possible
6.Make sure u get LRR tires when replacing tires. I am about to get replacement tires and am a fan of Michelins - however when I read the user posts I found that u can lose as much as 5 miles per gallon depending on the tire.
7.And finally and very effective: USE YOUR CRUISE AS MUCH AS U CAN
Hope this is at least a little useful.
Phx.Jim
