I read that on Gizmodo the other day. Hilarious and true.

I know of one I'd like to donate.
The pesky critter paws mud across my hood, window and roof at night!

That actually happened to me once, when the car was in the garage :cat:

I guess the cat ran in when I was doing yard work and got stuck. It ran out the next morning when I went to work.

I'm all for CAT power :)

Re: Dead cats.... fuel for the future.

As the proud owner of a couple of very nice cats I'm bothered by the disdane for cats. I'm only bothered by the article in as much as the fact that the thought of using dead cats as a way of making biodiesel is kind of creepy and very strange. I mean, why single out cats and not include other forms of animal life? But anyway, yes, stray or neighbor cats can be annoying, but I can think of wildlife out there that is a lot more destructive to property and a lot more annoying than cats.

Finally Going to Respond

My love for pets is linked to my concern for the environment.

I'm the administrator of www.spencerthelion.com
(yes, that's my boss cat :P )

Since many of us are into saving taxpayer money, allow a quick tangent.

Traping/Neutering/Returning stray (feral) cats has saved taxpayer money and avoided half the euthanizations in San Diego and many other places It's described at www.feralcat.com.

I see the reason for the population of stray cats and dogs identical to bad driving and gas guzzlers - a lack of concern for others.

OK, I am completely offended by the subject line of this discussion. In good taste, I wouldn't even introduce the topic (true or hoax) into the greenhybrid site. I would hope that outsiders passing through would see our interests as a combination of care for the environment, the world around ourselves, gas prices, car technology and the like. I wouldn't even want to be likened with kooks who could come up with the idea of human animals as anything other than living creatures. C'mon guys. 'nuff kidding around.

What about possums? Seriously, I don't think it was the inventor who fabricated the cat connection. I'm not a cat person, but I think there are other alternatives if this story were true.

Common Thread - Indifference

The story posted is the type www.snopes.com may soon confirm or deny if the dead cat part was an urban myth. Do you believe everything you read on hybrids? ;) Keep in mind that in Europe that animal cruelity is frowned upon a lot more than in the US.

Many a Saturday morning I'd be at a rescue and this would happen:
  • Phone rings at PetsMart
  • Caller asks if the rescue hosted at the store has a puppy (or kitten)
  • My answer: "No but...."
  • Hangs up before sentence completed.
  • If we do have a pet they are interested in, there is a fair chance the Soccer Mom races to PetsMart. No, I don't think she came in a Prius {hint}. Some get frustrated that we don't just take their money and immediately turn over Fluffy or Fido - they get interviewed. Why? So many pets we took off the streets or out of the city pound, get dumped months later after the "cuteness" wears out. :(
This happens too often:
  • Soccer Mom guns the SUV to the pet store.
  • Junior is happy to have a puppy Dalmation
  • Months later, puppy is grown, hyper, out of control
  • Parents don't bother with obediance training.
  • One too many things were chewed, then dog is taken to the city pound, where the euthanizia is 60-80% (more in large cities)
  • Parent assures boy "the dog is going to be alright".
To state what should be very obvious, we have a lot of people irresponsible about the vehicles they drive, the pets they have, and other aspects of their life. At least they are being consistant - if that is a virtue.
