I've heard reports that both of these fuels supply less energy than they take to produce. This is clearly crap as Brasil is moving twards ethanol and away from importing oil. BD is anoher way to run our cars using our crops. Which is better?

 

Neither are perfect, especially because in order to make B100 you need 10% ethanol! So they are virtually inseparable. Using ethanol in cars made for gasoline is more of a problem than using biodiesel in a diesel car, so my vote goes to BD. There is another fuel that can be made from the same feedstock as what makes ethanol, but it's properties are much closer to gasoline and can be used without any modification or loss of performance, I think that has potential if the industrial farming lobby doesn't strangle the available alternatives.

 

Wayne/xcel found a thread where some guy pointed out that if you use the formula that declares biofuels to be a net loss, that same formula said that even oil was a net loss as well as coal. We obviously pump oil like mad and 54% of our electricity comes from coal. The formula is flawed.
