Keeping cool w/out A/C … For fuel economy of cours

Hi all,
The Ice bucket cooling method will not work as well as simply cool water. When your hand goes in the bucket the capilaries will constric blood flow and prevent circulation. Only by using water slightly cool will it work.
Cheers,
Steven

I know the 2004 already comes with heat rejecting green glass.
I wonder if the plastic film would help or hurt?

I've been thinking of getting a wireless indoor/outdoor thermometer set; put one in the trunk and one in the center console, to get a baseline before I do anything (more-or-less) permanent. I'm not sure it'll take the interior heat, though.... Does anyone know whether the trunk is cooler than the passenger compartment of a car? Assuming, of course, one is not using a/c.

Today I tried the ice bucket suggestion.
About 2 inches of cold water & an ice tray in a small cooler.
Sure works like a champ in 92 degree 95% humidity!
I left late and in a BIG hurry so I took the freeway 53-70MPH for 40 miles.
(When I do this while working the A/C on & off I get about 55MPG max.)
When I left the house I could only dip my hand for a few moments in the freezing water which was fine.
ALso wiped some cold water over neck, arms etc. Ahhhh so nice :o
25 minutes later and 1/2 the ride is over and the ice is gone and now can keep the hand submerged. Still cooling effect with wiping.
10 minutes after that the water is only cool and I'm getting hot.
45 minutes into my ride and the water is luke warm and I'm tempted to work the A/C again.
Resisting temptation I park the car with 62.9MPG. Very much a rounding success!
Tomorrow I plan to leave on my usual 10 minute earlier time, take my usual good route along with my cooler with 2 trays of ice and "see what she'll do"

general public couldn’t be bothered with such
Not really a hastle but rater odd indeed....along with other things we do.
Still get to astonish people with my +60 MPG's.
"Oh shuuuuuut uuuuuuup" a co-worker who commutes in a Yukon always tells me
It works great so far and I have had 2 > 90 degree and > 70% humidity (initial take off points only) segments
