From which scientific study did this come? Hybrids are basically ICE vehicles and as such are subject to the same laws of physics as other ICE vehicles. Without supporting data for the above statement I'll consider it hearsay at best.

I am open to learning so I'd love to see if there is any such study or even a simulation and explanation.. The cold weather brings the ICE Hybrid closer to it's ICE-only sibling because the ICE is running more often? They are both primarliy ICE vehicles then and the benefits of the Hybrid system are negated somewhat?
