For Prius MPG over the last 5 months, nobody comes close to Carl H (My Precious Prius). Going back to May 16 until Oct 5 (almost 5 months) he has driven 4996 miles used 61.85 gal of gas for an 80.8 MPG avg! Only Insight drivers have done better as far as I know. Congrats Carl! How do you do it?

Looks like he had a really good summer. I too would like to know how he did it. Thank you for pointing his summer tanks out to us. I drive an Insight and don't spend enough time looking at the records of the other cars. 80 in a Prius seems to be like 100 in a insight, doable but difficult. I also had a good summer. (SNO779 Silver Slipper) During the same time period I averaged 99.4, and 93.6 for the last year. I did the numbers for HyperMPG highwater and his summer average is 108.9 MPG. That includes the world record 2254 mile, 164 MPG tank from the Insight marathon. I wish the data base had a magic button that would do the math for us. It would be nice to know how a driver did in the last summer, winter, 10000 miles, year, etc. Any chance of that happening? Louis

Nicely done Carl! I've approached those numbers for a few tanks while trying very hard but to do so well for so long is quite an accomplishment.
Good eye Dennis BTW. MyPP is quite a way down from the top spots and might have escaped notice. If Carl had been driving this good the whole time he would be in the number one spot.

Ken,
I stand corrected. Is this the same driver that got the 120 MPG tank in the Prius in August? I don't follow the Japanese boards, so I am glad you chimed in, are there a lot of Japanese Prius drivers getting over 80 mpg for 5000 miles or is this driver unique?

Your numbers and Rick Barlow's and a number of Insight drivers are all awesome, I pay a little more attention to the Prius drivers because I drive one as well. I think it would be cool to look at a rolling average of gas mileage over 90 days or 5000 miles, or 12 tanks(it doesn't matter which to me) along with lifetime MPG so that great performances such as Carl's would stand out. My real lifetime MPG is not very good (52 MPG) but for the first 44000 miles or so I hadn't found out about p&g. The numbers in the database are from my first full tank where I started to learn the pulse and glide technique, my MPG is much different now than before, my previous best tank had been 57 MPG, since learning p&g my worst tank has been 57 mpg all the rest have been over 60 with a few in the 70s and one over 80. Carl and at least one Japanese driver, along with RBarlow, Lakedude, HotGeorgia, and a bunch of Insight drivers do much better than me, when you compare their numbers since May with mine.

There are a few other Japanese Prius drivers who archived good results.
