Re: Working towards 1000 miles on this tank

One important aspect about your two, 1,000 mile tanks are the amounts of gas versus the tank capacity:
  • 12.1 - 102% full
  • 11.9 - 100% full
Due to the risk of overfilling, I typically stop after the second click, which typically means I'm getting only 11.3-11.4 gallons per 11.9 gallon tank. Any thoughts about were the extra 0.2 gallons came from in the 12.1 gallon tank?

Since my Prius is so new to me I'm not sure how it's set up but, I have had a few cars through the years that I could get more gas in than the tank was rated for. On those cars I attributed that to the fuel it took to fill up the filler tube. Not sure if that applies to the Prius though.

Hi Larry,

Mostly there is the risk of overfilling the Prius tank:

I've looked at the filler tube and the return line that leads to the $$_bad space. It isn't terribly large, compared to other filler tubes I've seen in the past. Still, I've read tales of 'burping' the tank.
