Sorry about the hijack Would you be interested in writing an article about biodiesel for GreenHybrid? It's not directly related to hybrids, but is alternative fuel.

Biodiesel is created from home by-products, I believe.

Hi RationalRevolution:

___You can actually purchase it here in Illinois just as you would at a gas pump. It isn’t available just anywhere but somewhere down state it is … You can find out more about it on Biodiesel.com’s site. I think that is the name of it anyway?

___Good Luck

You can indeed make it yourself for about $.60/gallon using waste vegetable oil (most restaurants are glad to get rid of it), lye, methanol, and some mixing/heat. I don't do that though, as lye and methanol are dangerous and I have two little kids.

There are several sites you can check to see lists of where to buy it commercially (none of which are entirely up to date).

This one is maintained by the National Biodiesel Board - http://www.biodiesel.org/buyingbiodiesel/r...es/default.shtm

The Department of Energy maintains a really neat database-driven application that will tell you all the stations within a certain area or along a certain route - http://www.afdc.doe.gov/refueling_mapsite.shtml

And you can check out the regional forums at BioDieselNow for a more grass-roots effort to track stations - http://forums.biodieselnow.com/default.asp?CAT_ID=1
