Geoff,

Generally you should dig a hole that is double the rootball in size. Unless this tree that you want is really small, I would strongly advise that you go to a nursery and buy a 24" box tree. That is a nice size for a front yard. Not too small, and not too big to handle. 24" box tress normally will cost $100+.

If the tree in the field is any bigger than 1" diameter, it is doubtful you will be able to dig it up and transplant it so that it will live. Also planting trees is best done in the spring so you may want to wait 2-3 more months.

Geoff, forget digging that tree up, that's to much work! Go to Wal-Mart and get you a nice tree.

yes, but wallmart may not be the best place to shop since they have demonstrated that they are not very green. I would advise finding a small locally owned nursery with helpful employees that can give you good advice on selecting the right trees to maximize O2 conversion to help keep the earth green.

Thanks for your earth focus Sipper. We need more citizens like you

Wal -Mart puts everything you need under one roof. That means less fuel wasted by not running all over town. If that's not green I don't know what is.
