Default 2005 w/code 9239

So, I finally broke down and got the ScanGauge II.

My '06 thankfully isn't showing any codes or problems but I will discuss that in the other thread.

My '05 is showing the BTC Code 9239. Is that the blend door problem so many other people have had? I tried decoding it on the Wiki site but it made my head spin.

The wrench light came on last week but is now out. The code is still showing at least for now.

I still have warranty coverage on both of them but with a $100 deductible. Is this worth doing myself?

Thanks in advance.

Post #1 in this thread says it maps to DTC B1239, which apparently is indeed the traction battery blend door actuator.

I'd recommend getting the Ford replacement part since it's cheap and aftermarket parts don't have the best reputation. You can also do it yourself like I and many other have.

Here's more info on it:

WRENCH LIGHT ON-DTC B1239
FORD:
2005-2008 Escape Hybrid

MERCURY:
2006-2008 Mariner Hybrid

ISSUE
Some 2005-2008 Escape Hybrid and 2006-2008 Mariner Hybrid vehicles may exhibit a wrench light on with DTC B1239. This may or may not be accompanied by driveability symptoms including reduced power.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
Replace the Traction Battery Auxiliary Mode Door Actuator.

1. Remove the left hand D-pillar trim panel. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-05.

2. Remove the four (4) battery air[low duct screws, the one (1) pin-type retainer and remove the battery air[low duct assembly.

3. Remove the two (2) auxiliary climate control fresh air inlet duct nuts and remove the duct.

NOTE THE D-PILLAR BRACKET WILL REMAIN IN PLACE.

4. Remove two (2) upper climate control housing bolts and two (2) lower climate control housing nuts.

5. Position the climate control housing to gain access to the auxiliary mode door actuator.

6. Disconnect the auxiliary mode door actuator electrical connector.

7. Remove the auxiliary air[low mode door actuator screws.

8. Remove and replace the auxiliary airflow mode door actuator. Inspect actuator for free movement from any obstructions including the wiring harness.

9. Install the auxiliary air[low mode door actuator screws. Tighten to 18 lb-in (2 N.m).

NOTE THE AUXILIARY CLIMATE CONTROL HOUSING MUST BE INSTALLED BEHIND THE LOWER PORTION OF THE D-PILLAR BRACKET. WHEN INSTALLED CORRECTLY, THE AUXILIARY CLIMATE CONTROL HOUSING BOLT WILL GO THROUGH THE D-PILLAR BRACKET FIRST, THEN THROUGH THE HOUSING MOUNTING LOCATION.

10. Connect auxiliary mode door actuator electrical connector and position back the climate control housing.

11. Install two (2) upper climate control housing bolts. Tighten to 62 lb-in (7 N.m).

12. Install two (2) lower climate control housing nuts. Tighten to 53 lb-in (6 N.m).

13. Install the auxiliary climate control fresh air inlet duct and tighten nuts to 62 lb-in (7 N.m).

14. Install the battery airflow duct assembly, one (1) pin-type retainer and the four (4) screws. Tighten to 18 lb-in (2 N.m).

15. Install the lefi hand D-pillar trim panel. Refer to WSM, Section 501-05.

16. Reprogram the Traction Battery Control Module (TBCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release B52.5 and higher with Patch 7. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2007.11 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.

Thanks Rob. I will let the dealer do it since it is now going in for A/C work as well. Blowing cool air but not cold. I have a $100 deductible but if they do more than one repair, I only have to pay the deductible once. I appreciate the help.

Just be aware it's like a $25 part free to change yourself, versus likely way more if the stealership does it. As for the A/C recharge, I, as well as many others, have had the same refrigerant leak problem from what I've read over the years. Mine needed recharged when I bought it, which lasted about a year till it blew warm again. At that point I checked all the A/C piping connections in the engine compartment and underneath the car going into the rear traction battery area, and found at least 3 loose connections, one of which was extremely loose and was the likely cause, though it hasn't been long enough from the last refill to know yet. If it's not the connections, then your compressor is likely the issue.

Both of mine have had a/c issues. The '05 had the condensor replaced a few years ago and last year I had to have the compressor replaced in the '06. All warranty work thankfully.

I'll be taking it in this week I hope. Got to get everything done before I run out of miles on the warranty.

So, the 9239 code on my 2005 went away but about the same time it came up on my 2006. I made an appointment and brought it in yesterday and they repaired it under warranty. They were curious as to how I was able to tell them what it was. :-)

Anyway, after I got home and put the ScanGauge back in, it tells me I have two BTC codes but the DTC is blank - no 0000, no code, blank. I am wondering if the reprogramming of the Battery Module changed something?

Any help appreciated. I may post a separate thread on this.

Thanks
