2008 Escape Hybrid 3 star driver side crash rating?
Hey. So, I have read several places that the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid only has a 3 star rating for the driver.
Does anyone know why this is so low? I have seen people ask this question in other forums, but no one ever answered on this.
I want to put my wife and baby in something safe. We are getting rid of a 2009 honda fit (which shows it has 4 and 5 stars in every category.)
Would love some advice on this.

One thing to remember, the crash rating on a car is relative to vehicles the same size, not across sizes. Your Honda Fit crash rating of 5 stars will not necessarily give you the equal protection of a 5 star rating on a different size vehicle.
Edit:
An example would be my truck. Although is doesn't have a crash rating at the present time, based on past models, it will have a 4 or 5 star crash rating. What do you think will happen in a head on between a Honda Fit and a F-350 diesel dually with a road weight of almost 9,000 pounds?

You can find these numbers for the 2005-2010 Escape Hybrids here:

The 2008 does indeed have an unimpressive score for the driver in a frontal impact. If it's any solace to your passengers, it's good otherwise.
Since the 2007 is 4 stars for the driver, the 2008 is 3 stars, and the 2009 is 5 stars, one would have to conclude something was changed for the 2009. I wonder if it was an anomaly in the 2008's test?
