Default 2008 FEH: $657 reasonable for 90k service?

Hi all,

My 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid is coming up on its 90k service.

The dealership quoted $657, which I thought seemed high as most of the services included are "inspect".

This is what is included:

FORD VEHICLE REPORT CARD AND MULTI-POINT INSPECTION
90K - WORKS PACKAGE UP TO 5 QUARTS SYNTHETIC BLEND OIL, REPLACE ENGINE AIR FILTER, REPLACE CABIN AIR FILTER, 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT, TRANSMISSION FLUSH, COOLANT FLUSH, TOP OFF ALL FLUIDS, MULTI-POINT SAFETY INSPECTION AND VEHICLE HEALTH REPORT.

I don't think I need an alignment. Just wondering if it sounded reasonable for here in MA (or anywhere else) or I should look for a private mechanic.

Thanks!

This is a 90,000 mile service, not a 90,000km service right?

I would abide by what's in the Scheduled Maintenance Guide in the Owner's Manual. For my 2007, the 90k mile service is pretty basic, just oil change and filters.

I think your dealer is just pushing for unnecessary servicing at an excessive price. I'd go strictly by what's in the manual and save your money for a real repair.

Yes, 90,000 mile service. The dealership definitely doesn't seem to be giving me a "deal." I'll look elsewhere. My only draw to the dealership is that I have not been able to find a private mechanic with Hybrid experience.

You could print out the 100K mile service from owner.ford.com and ask the dealer to do that at the correct interval, but you'll probably get a lot of funny looks from the dealer as to why you're going by Ford's servicing intervals. "The Works" every 10k miles is usually $30-40 at my Ford dealer (does not include air filters). The 100k service is more as Ford specs changing spark plugs and coolant.

The owner's manual has a maintenance schedule that details what's needed when. I use that for maintaining my FEH.

Beware that since the Escape's electric steering has an automatic system that compensates for pull, you can have misalignment and not feel it in the steering wheel. A check for uneven or odd tire wear should do.

If they do what they say, very reasonable.

Huh? For an oil, coolant and filters change and an alignment? I'd say it is about 4X what it is worth. Trans is sealed for life.

I disagree. Trans fluid can be drain and fill, or flushed. I would do drain and fill, but even that is $75 or so. Two coolant flushes -- there are two of them -- $150 or so. LOF -- $50. Air filter -- $50. Cabin filter is a pain in the *** -- $75 at least. 4 wheel align -- $100 easily, more if way out of alignment.

Those are all low ball, local guy prices. At a dealer, more. Plus, get it up on a rack and look it over, check the battery, brakes, etc??

Fair price in my opinion IF they do all the things listed.
