2014 annual sales results are coming in and it isn't pretty for hybrids, even the mighty Prius' sales have fallen double digits. Overall hybrid sales were down 9%.
If the market was strong and growing for small hybrid suv-like vehicles, you would expect many manufacturers to be introducing them. I think the Lexus NX300h is the only all-new for 2015 small hybrid SUV on the market.

The Cmax uses a Ford developed and USA produced hybrid battery. The Escape Hybrid used a hybrid battery that was developed and produced in Japan. Toyota has indirect partial ownership of the former Escape Hybrid battery.

It seemed like time to check better sources. Wikipedia has an amazingly complete article on hybrid sales.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_electric_vehicles_in_the_United_StatesThough it lacks Canadian, global and 2014 numbers, there is a relatively steady increase in the proportion of hybrids in the overall vehicle fleet.

In 2013 there was a new high of 500,000 hybrids sold in the US, representing 3.19% of all car sales. I didn't try to separate out the small suv numbers, but at a glance they seem to follow the overall hybrid sales. Sales of any one of them may not be impressive, but there have been many models added.

You will see from current, manufacturer's sales data that during 2014 hybrid sales started to nose dive in the US to less than 3% of the total market. 1999-2013 was a different story with much higher fuel prices and interest in hybrids was strong. Buyers' memories are short, you'll notice big, low mpg SUVs are coming back stronger than ever. Shoot I just got offered a whopping $2500 for trading in my '07 FEH 4WD in clean condition, a far cry from 2 years ago when they were hot and all the taxi drivers wanted them.

Ford will be building off the C240 platform that the Escape and Focus currently share. Let me guess--C2 two vehicles 40 for miles of EV.
