Default $5+/gal gas

What will $5/gal ++ gas do to the value of
our FEH's? Even a 2005 with a lot of miles
on it?

Lets assume an 05 with 125k on it is worth
maybe $7000 on a trade in at the beginning
of 2011.

I'm interested to see how the online used vehicle valuation sites might adjust. Here's the value for my '08 FEH as of today:

Site 1: $17,845 (Private Party)
Site 2: $16,975 (Trade-in)
Site 3: $17,860 (Private Party)

Current mileage is a little under 67,000 and condition is Clean.

It may also be interesting to post current figures for non-hybrid models to compare later.

Fair Enough.

Without getting too deep into which model (XLS, XLT, Limited) is closest to my FEH, here's the prices for an '08 Escape I4 XLT with similar options/values:

Site 1: $14,885 (Private Party)
Site 2: $14,600 (Trade-in)
Site 3: $13,581 (Private Party)

What Valuation site are you using?

When I was searching for my FEH I used two
sites to value a vehicle. They are:

http://www.nadaguides.com/

http://www.kbb.com/

These two sites will never agree on a value
but taking the two of them as a strong
indicator is a good tool. I often found that
a Dealer would price an Escape at Thousands
above the maximum Retail value of a vehicle.
Also if you are looking at a non-FEH Escape
check to make sure you can't get a lower
price, and great deal, on a new one rather
then a resale off a lot.

And always, ALWAYS ( did I say that loud
enough ) run a prospective vehicles VIN
through:

https://www.nicb.org/theft_and_fraud...check/vincheck

before you buy. It was amazing how many
cars I found For Sale that had been
stolen, junked and then retitled.

A Title with the "Brand" Junk means
just that. It ain't worth a dime.

My 08 is in line with yours.

3.5yrs ago when gas started soaring I think I could have sold mine for a profit!

I'm going to track this also... Tracking weekly the 3 values from kbb.com for both a 2009 Hybrid, and a 2009 XLT 4-cyl with 70,000 miles. Should be interesting.

Gas prices are on their march higher again and I have ~77,000 miles on my '05 FEH. I've had it with E10 and gas prices so I'm looking at getting the Ford Electric Focus after selling the '05 FEH at the peak gas prices again. The '09 FEH is my baby that runs on E10 just fine so that's a keeper.

Got my new Explorer and sold my old Explorer last Friday. Averaging 22mpg over 824.4 miles and if I was the only driver I would be above 30mpg. No way in getting my wife to hypermile her new Explorer. At any rate, the new Explorer has been keeping my attention learning new hypermiling techniques. It is one hell of a vehicle so take a look: http://www.cleanmpg.com/photos/showg.../500/ppuser/36
