THE Air and Oil Filter Thread

Re: THE Air and Oil Filter Thread
Here is my two cents worth: K and N advertise their airfilter products allow greater "free-flowing" airflow. If more air is induced, then does more fuel have to be added to keep the air/fuel mixture in specification? Doesn't this increase power and then decrease gas mileage due to a "unlean" condition?

Re: THE Air and Oil Filter Thread
Ok, here's my new experience buying the gammet of filters required for my recently purchased 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid...
Murray's Auto Parts Store could order, but did not stock, the Oil Filter and Air Filter... Both cheaper than the dealer price.
Motorcraft Oil Filter FL2017B... WITH 2 needed gaskets, $4.99
Motorcraft Air Filter FA1772 $27.99
Autozone had the cap wrench but no filters
Had to go to Dealer for other two filters
Cabin Air Filter FP49 $32.20 they discounted to $27 when I complained
Battery A/C Filter FP51 $32.20 they discounted to $27 when I complained
(this Battery air filter they call a cabin air filter on the box... Talk about confusing a person)

Re: THE Air and Oil Filter Thread
Think about it. The battery A/C inlet air filter is probably just a converted cabin air filter. I don't believe it would be necessary to engineer a completely new filter design for this rare and unique hybrid application.

Re: THE Air and Oil Filter Thread
Actually the battery air filter is the smallest of the three and has no outside rubber frame... ie: cheapest to manufacture, yet you are supposed to change it every oil change and it is equally the most expensive filter... They got ya!
I just bought another oil filter at another dealer while buying some accessories... the dealer also discounted his price on this after me bringing up that I could get it cheaper at the auto parts store... Just FYI

Re: THE Air and Oil Filter Thread
Dereck, the hybrid battery air filter has a 20,000 mile change interval. It might make sense to use a K+N filter here--photo exists in this section--as this is a pure particle filter and we shoulc be able to clean it and reuse it.

Re: THE Air and Oil Filter Thread
I'd love to support FoMoCo and buy them directly from Ford. But since we can't....
