Pretty much my feelings as well. I knew I was giving up some MPG getting the AWD, but an SUV without AWD just doesn't make sense for my purposes. I can get better MPG than an Escape Hybrid if FWD is all I want.

That system is refer to in Ford articles as a "On Demand" system but I fail to see the demand every time one leaves from a dead stop on dry hard pavement.

By far the best real life situation I have ever read about the system. Did the TC kick in as well?

I have a very long enterance ramp to a x-way in my area and while coasting, I always notice it will engage for a split second, just a few percent.

BTW: The 2013 Escape has a dash icon showing torque to each wheel. Since the Ford's 4WD/AWD can only devert torque between the front/rear, I'm not sure how it can show each wheel unless they mean TC. I've seen one owner complain that it shows nothing!

There's a big difference between saying the system activates at times that seem pointless and saying that the system does nothing and any perceived advantage is a placebo affect.

I used the word "placebo" because if one believes the ads, articles even from Ford Powertrain Specialists you think that you have one hell of a system but you don't!

One of those Specialists wrote that under heavy throttle the system all torque to the rear so the front has more steering control. You can mash the pedal to the floor and get a bit over 30%.

A Ford site even had a graphic showing torque being deverted side to side through as "S" curve road. That was pulled since it don't work that way at all.

No TC on the 2008 model so far as I know... so no, it did not kick in!

That's right, IIRC that was added in the '09MY Hybrid.

Watched my ScanGauge on the way home from work. Under acceleration I regularly exceeded 30%. Highest I noticed was just over 63%.

Several of us have now disputed your claims that the system does nothing (the definition of a placebo). We've backed them up with real experience driving the vehicles.

You clearly have a chip on your shoulder regarding Fords AWD system, and don't let facts get in the way of your argument. I'm done.

If you get 63%, your using the original coding by DesertDog/CarlD and not the changes he made later on.

I never said that it did nothing. I said that it doesn't do what ads leads one to believe.

Your a noobie, I'm not but I don't own a Hybrid but have an Escape with 4WD which brought me to this forum after seeing some pictures of SG screens posted elsewhere by a user. That's back when I belived it was a "On Demand System" and the pictures showed differently.

I put lots of effort into learning how the system really works and if you care to learn something too, you can read the whole thread here: https://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/...uage-ii-21592/.

Here's an interesting video comparing different systems including the Escape: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktoGVBR4op4

Nonsense...you are knowledge base challenged on this issue.
