coolant color question for 2006 mmh (tough question )
Hey guys...
my 06 MMH with 128000 miles has a weird color to the coolant. Its almost like a orange tint to it and not completely yellow. One coolant container has yellow correct looking fluid and the other has the orange tint. The one with the orange tint is the one in the back (behind other).......when looking at engine from the front of car. Can someone tell me what this coolant container cools? and also if you think there is something wrong. thanks.

Hello,
On my 2008' the rear coolant tank is for the motor/electronics. Both my coolant tanks have the same colored coolant.
Are you the first owner? If not others may have put another coolant product in the tank. If you are the original, I would suggest a visit or a call to Ford and ask them.
Please let us know your resolution as I am interested in this issue.

im the second owner. seems to me that possibly the owner or a ford dealership probably had to drain the cooling system for something (probably MECP change out) and they put some generic coolant in it. I guess it would be a good idea to drain and fill up with new motorcraft gold right?

Mijohnst,
With all the coolant types out there and different colors, I prefer to stay with what Ford has to offer, especially if I don't know the history of the existing fluid. Do you have a good Ford/Mercury dealer nearby who can test the current fluid? Specially if you are concerned something is amiss. Peace of mind thing for me.

Found this in my FEH service manual:
"NOTE: The addition of Cooling System Stop Leak Pellets VC-6 or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M99B37-B6 darkens Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant from yello to golden tan."
They list an orange-colored Motorcraft Specialty Orange Engine Coolant VC-2, cautioning not to mix the VC-6 with VC-2 or it can degrade the coolant corrosion protection.
Could be that they either used stop leak pellets or they used the VC-2 coolant instead of the recommended VC-6?

Honestly, I haven't found anything different between VC-6 and VC-7a/b that is any different besides someone mentioning that the bitterant forumla is different. They're all in the Premium Gold series of coolant. But I'm not a mechanic... I just read the manual
