I doubt its any operating system anyone has heard of... and probably proprietary. It would be some real-time system that hopefully didn't require much computer horsepower to run.

It talks on a high speed serial bus, called a CAN bus, for Controller Area Network.... Serial in the sense it only needs two wires. But it is fast... 100 Mbps I think... fast enough to trigger air bags and ABS.
The system is standard across all manufactures, but the "language" may differ... and there are sub=sets of data and commands that are generic, and some that are propriatary.

CANBus is a communications protocol. The oerating systems may be dependent on the microcontrollere used in the application. In some cases, it is just some of the pieces that would be in a complete operating system.
