Getting Closer to Buying - last-minute questions

Re: Getting Closer to Buying - last-minute questions
It's funny to me how some dealers will give you the keys and let you go out on your own.
Most want a salesman in the car with you to make sure.... I don't know... make sure you don't steal it or scratch it or something. Once or twice I've had dealers give me the keys and say "have fun". One, didn't even ask for any ID from me first!

I think most at least want to make a copy of you DL. My dealer was quick to let my wife and I test drive alone once he had that. Besides, unless you walk/bike up, they have your current vehicle as a viable hostage.
I'm not sure if he would have done the same with the Shelby GT500 they had.

He did get copies of our DLs, yes. And the car wasn't brand-new...it was an '08 with 27K miles on it, as well as a few scratches and dings. So I guess he wasn't as concerned about us stealing or ruining its perfection (grin).
