Help needed to troubleshoot battery overheating

Hi all,
i have a 2006 Ford Escape hybrid with around 156k miles. The last month or so it has not been going into EV mode after driving around for a while. I checked the battery temp and it goes into the 40s. At that point the battery doesn’t show charging or assistance, very slow acceleration. At times I can also hear a whine in the back, seems to be coming from where the battery fans are located, not there all the time and varies with my car speed (when EV mode is active when car is cool).
from my troubleshooting so far...
metal AC lines to the back seem okay, no damage, one hot, one very cold
no service light for blend door

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
AC in car seems to be working, not super cold but never has been.

Re: Help needed to troubleshoot battery overheating

Of course, the likely culprit is the battery fans.
2nd in line is making the AC colder. Reportedly the $25 scroll valve in the bottom of the compressor can be replaced and makes a big difference in output temp. Good for both battery and passengers.
