Re: Hymotion PHEV
The price of the Lithium Batteries really has not come down much.
It is a smaller battery for $10k than what you get from Hybrids-Plus.
You are gettting a smaller bag of chips ( or dog food ) for your dollar.
I had been buying 20# bags of dog food for years.
Went to the store recently, and the price is the same, but now they sell 17.6# sacks of dog food. What the #$%! I think Hymotion may have done the same.
The Hymotion pack is labeled as 5kWh but they only let you deplete it 60% so you get 3kWh of power to the wheels. Still an advantage to plug-in charge, no doubt.
I just wanted to say that price per kilo-watt-hour has been stable for the past 3 years.
The price is not going down. ( much if at all )
Hymotion does not remove the stock pack.
You lose cargo area, and you add 200 pounds of weight to the car.
Hymotion gives you 3kWh to the wheels for $10,000.
Hybrids-Plus removes the stock pack.
You do not lose cargo area, and you add trivial weight to the car.
Based on the FEH price, you get 10kWh to the wheels for $32,400.
Based on 120VAC the Hymotion re-charges in 4 hours because it is smaller.
Based on 120VAC the Hybrids-Plus re-charges in 12 to 14 hours since it is larger.
For a few bucks, Hybrids-Plus will add 120/220/240 volts charging options.
Then you could charge the big 10kW FEH in 6-7 hours.
Just like at McD's. Do you want regular size? Or super size?
At least there are options for Prius customers now.
I saw no indication of Hymotion making packs for the Ford Escape.

Re: Hymotion PHEV
I have the 9kw pack from Hybrids-plus and the full charge only takes 4-5 hours with the 110volt charger Then there is another 1-2 hours that it likes to have to do a balance charge. FYI - I drive 60 miles a day and I have only had to do a full charge twice in the last year.

Re: Hymotion PHEV
Very nice Dave!
I know the good folks at Hybrids-Plus and I stop by often to say hello since I live near by.
I would really love to hear your impressions of the PHEV and how well it is ( or is not ) working for you. Care to share a little of your background with us here, or via person to person email? I mean, were you a "hypermiler" before the conversion? Did you always try to beat the EPA miles per gallon before? How often ( or how little ) do you use your gasoline engine now that you have the larger battery?
Do you think it charges quick because you do not drain it down all the way?
I drove the Escape PHEV a few times, and I took the battery down to the minimum.
It is a larger pack than even the Prius PHEV-30 ( the double pack ) so it took about 12 hours to go from min.
Welcome to this site! Have you been here before?
