Rust Protection and First Oil Change

Rust Protection and First Oil Change
I am in Canada and in winter there will be lots of salt on street to remove the snow. Is it the case that the truck can be more easily rusted? Did you buy the dealer life time rust treatment or you do it year by year? The eletrical eletrode method is better or grease rust protection is better? If you select the electrical method, does it require more gas from 12 V battery?
I heard after the breaking period it is better to change oil. Do you change your first oil at 1000 mile or wait untill 10,000 mile for the first oil change? Do you use synthetic oil or just normal ones? Do you stick on Ford's recommanded frequency (every 10,000 mile) or more frequent?
Here are some pictures of my new 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid 4WD:
Thanks!
Below is an old image, I already installed a 4WD sign just above the hybrid sign.... )

Re: Rust Protection and First Oil Change
Rust Protection--if this is what you want, go with an aftermarket vendor such as Ziebart with annual touchup treatements. I would skip the dealer installation. This rust protection question also requires one to ask themselves how long do they keep their vehicle?
First Oil Change---I would wait until 4-5 thousand miles (8K in metric) before switching over to full synthetic.

I can answer that one - in the 2008 model, it's one of the inserts from the between-the-seats console; you can remove it from there and hang it off of the rear of the console. There's also a smaller insert that slides into a "bracket" on the side of the dash center console in the passenger footwell.

That's the tray from inside the console, just turned around, facing backwards

Then there was an eye opener there is a CAVERN inside the console! It is actually an "L" shaped hole that goes much deeper than the insert. So I think the area is more useful with the insert removed anyway.
