Weird thump at engine shutdown

Weird thump at engine shutdown
I have a new problem on my 2007 FEH, 65,000 miles. When the engine is warm and I come to a quick stop the engine shuts down with a thump. Up until now, the engine shut off was near imperceptible. When the engine shuts off on a gentle stop or while running at slow speed it is smooth, as it always was.
Has anyone else see this? Tone ring again?

Re: Weird thump at engine shutdown
Mystery solved. It was the left front tone ring cracked and loose. I have previously replaced the right tone ring. I'll epoxy it back on and replace it next spring. I epoxied the other one and when I finally went to replace it about 6 months later, the epoxy was still holding strong.
Three lashes with a wet noodle for the engineer that designed this tone ring, and ten lashes for his management that did not correct the design over these many model years.

I have been getting around 50,000 miles on the tone rings before they fail. A big time crack can cause vehicle malfunction in that it is unsafe to drive while the service 4x4 system and braking system warnings are flashing on the dash.
