That should mean that the entire 2008 model year has been sold out.

Sorry to bump and older thread...but does this mean if ordering now we might be getting an 09'? I was just thinking this as I read the posts about new engine etc for 09'.....

I am not sure if an order for an '08 automatically gets moved over to an '09. Or if the order for an '08 simply gets chanced, and it up to your dealer to re-submit the order as an '09.

I think the later because not all '08 orders will map exactly into an '09 (colors change, options change, etc).

At this point, if it were me, I'd push your dealer to get in an '09 order as soon as they start taking them (of course I don't mind waiting for a new car that I know has what I want). I guess there may be a pricing issue between the 08 and 09 but who knows. I wouldn't pay over MSRP for an ordered vehicle (I actually paid $98 over invoice when I ordered my 08).

If they do go with the 2.5L (even in the Atkinson-ized form) in the 09, the FEH should have some pretty impressive get-up-and-go.

I actually talked to my dealer beginning of this week about this, I'm waiting for him to get back to me in the next day or two. He had also heard a similiar story, actually he said they just weren't taking orderes on FEH until april, which must mean for 09 model year. His "Ford Rep" was coming in yesterday and he was going to talk to him about it and get back to me, I told him I knew a new engine was coming and if I had to wait say 3months for an 08 or 3.5 months for an 09' with a new engine I'd take the 09 and longer wait....we'll see what he says after talking to the ford rep. He also said the Mercury guys at the dealership had a couple ordered with mystery names on them just for invnetory and they were on the way he thought, but I'd prefer a FEH, just for the packages....MMH lumps nav with the heated seats/backup warning etc...I don't want nav and the FEH breaks those out seperate.

Just make sure that it isn't 3 more months for an '08, or 7 months starting in April for an '09.

If Ford handles this like they have for some SE Mustangs in the past, all pre-year orders get cancelled, and if you have a "good" dealer, he/she will get the new order into the system within seconds of the ordering window opening.

Find out what day the ordering window opens for the '09s, call your salesperson at home at 5AM, buy them a grande espresso coffee, pick them up and drive them to work, escort them to the ordering terminal, put their hands on the keyboard, and beg them to start typing.

Plenty of time to join the American Quarter Horse Association for your extra $500 discount.

Yeah I hear you guys, both of you I was thinking about how I suddenly had an interest in horses.... My salesman is out today but I'm itching to talk to him after he spoke to the ford rep, hopefully monday I will....I don't mind waiting few months starting now but like Walt said...if my wait will start after april that's a bit excessive....my salesman is pretty good though, he's actually 5 hrs from me in buffalo, ny but my family has bought cars from him for years so I go back to him, he's at a very large dealership and takes great care of us so hopefully he knows the tricks to getting first in line, He's actually drove a new Escape down to my sister almost 7 hours away and drove her trade back to the dealership because she couldn't get back to NY to do it herself....that's service in my book I'm also on the x-plan so pricing is pretty much non-negotiable....

I find it absurd people would wait even 6 weeks for a "hybrid" anything. I mean we love our FEH but it isn't the greatest thing since the invention of the cheese danish. Nat and I have owned ours for a year and after the initial thought of "being green" has worn off, I would sell it in a heartbeat. There are many cars I would rather own that get better gas mileage. I did the math and after all considerations it will take us years for this thing to justify the expense. It's just a car after all and a Ford at that. send me an email, I'll sell you mine, no wait.

Jerry, do you know of any other cars/vehicles that have this much room (I have two big dogs and my girlfriend has 5 big dogs, they travel with us often) and get 30+ mpg? Oh and it should have a blue oval on the front....my grandfather worked most of his life at a Ford factory and that factory supports alot of people near where I grew up. Please let me know which model to look at that isn't so "absurd" and I'm all over it! Besides I'm not even ready for the hybrid yet, but I know there is a wait so it should be here right about when I'm ready, it's called planning ahead, not being absurd.....

For anyone else looking to get an 08', get it on the lot or wait for an 09'....my dealer confirmed ordering for 08' is over, 09' order banks open sometime in April.

I stopped by 2 local Silicon Valley Ford and Mercury stores a few weeks ago and found a 17 hybrid Escapes and Mariners on their lots -- and only one
non-hybrid (must be a conspiracy!). The Ford store is advertising hybrid Escapes for $4355 under MSRP. So even if you live on the East Coast, figure $600 bucks to ship cross country, and you could have a new one on your doorstep in two weeks.

I have no affiliation with this dealer, I didn't buy a car from them (tho I spoke to some knowledgeable sales reps), but here is their ad:
