Default Road trip to Fla from MA in '05

General comments from our recent road trip to FLA from MA for school vacation week along the I-95 corridor.
Total miles- 3,500 Trip average- 35mpg Ave. highway speed- 75mph
The trunk was completly full, + driver and 2 pass.
First tank had 400+ miles of sub freezing nightime driving, against a substantial headwind, and only saw 31.5mpg. Most of the time in FLA I was around 36-37mpg. Several tanks of around 550 miles, and never put in more than 14.5 gallons.
I never saw another HAH during the entire trip, and only 2 Prius anywhere south of New York. At 75mph, I was frequently relagated to the slow lane as all the SUV's and pickups passed me at 80+ . In fact, far fewer cars from up north than SUV's.
Based on at least 4 separate 100+ mile checks, my odometer is about 1% high.

It was good to get out of the cold for awhile, and always good to see the rest of the country. Everybody should get out and take a road trip once in awhile, its a good reality check.

Sounds like a good trip. My numbers for my last 1000+ mile trip was similar to yours. 4,000 miles, 40 mpg, 70 mph. I'm about to do 3,500 miles on I-10 between Phoenix and Biloxi at the end of the month. I hope to see similar numbers.

Didn't you get the class action lawsuit in the mail? The odometers are said to be off between 2-4% high. I've never checked mine to really know.

I drove out here to Biloxi last weekend. A little over 1,600 miles. For most of the trip, I had the cruise set at 80 mph. I averaged 34 mpg for the whole trip.

Next weekend, I'll be driving back to Phoenix. I'll post my mileage for that leg when I get home.

I just drove between Chicago and SF with a couple of stops along the way.. .total of about 2400 miles after driving around Denver's back country for awhile... overall got a trip total of 37.4mpg off the odometer... I drove the first leg without cruise control between Chicago and Lincoln, NE and only got 34.3mpg. After that, I started using cruise control and the mileage started climbing.... my best leg was somewhere in mid Nevada all the way through to San Francisco of 42.3mpg... the downhill from Lake Tahoe on HW 80 really helped drive that number up... averaged 77mph and filled up at about 505 miles but still had another 89miles on range... positive I could have squeezed another 150 miles out without any issue but decided to save some more $$ by filling up out in the burbs versus downtown SF..... my wife had been sceptical about my purchase of my 05' HAH but was impressed with the mpg..... the trunk was filled to the brim with luggage and so were the back seats... I love this car with 2 exceptions.... wished that there was an economy mode that improved mpg in city driving and wished that the trunk was much larger.... 2 sets of golf clubs fills up the trunk with no room for the pull cart =(
