My wife drives a GM Sierra which, she tells me has a 25 g tank. I gave her a 100.00 gift card at chevron telling her it would probably last through 2 fill-ups down here.

I filled my Prius twice on my 100.00 card and I'm about 2/3 through it.

Pretty astounding for someone who, in his youth, would drive into his uncle's gas station in Chicago and put .25 worth of gas in a '47 chevy.

It's not how much the fill costs, but how far it takes you. My ~$20 fills in the smart take me about 375 miles in typical use. And fuel costs a lot more up here than down there.

Let's see...

HUMMER: 8 MPG x 32 gallons = 256 miles per fillup.
2003 HCH: 42 MPG X 12 gallons = 504 miles per fillup.
That means I get to drive twice as far and pay one-third as much to do so.

People who drive guzzler hulks get what they deserve.

I drive the Interstates and pass a lot of truck stops.

Diesel says $3.33 most of the time, and says "Cash Price".

I'm thinking of those Truck Drivers who have 100 gallon saddles on both sides.... ( up to ) 200 gal. x $3.33 and you want to be paid CASH?!?!

Dang! Forget robbing a bank these days!

Mike T , I have a friend that is interested in a Smart. He has concerns about comfort on longer trips. Have you had yours out on a long trip? 8-10 hrs. per day.If so how would you rate the Smart. Thanks, H

That means no charge cards, debit cards OK and company checks. When you use a charge card the merchant must pay the card company a fee usually around 4% which would be about $.14 a gallon which may be their margin, when I owned a gas station our margin was 2.7%. Got out of that business!
