I find it VERY interesting that 2 of the hybrid people complain about not having high enough MPGs, are 2 of them that saved the most $$, the Lexus 400h and the HAH.

I question the Prius because I would like to know what they were comparing it to considering there is no non-hybrid version.

What a load of crap! After three years, I'm going to be ahead. I've already saved close to $1500 in gas this year alone! By Five years, I'm going to be around $3300 ahead than the conventional version! And that's with stable gas prices!

Other than that, nice read.

Look, hybrids are cheap vehicles in terms of total cost of ownership, and they do not pollute very much. The choir here knows this. Most people don't know it yet, but they will in a few more years. If BCAA or consumer reports or some other entity feels that the jury is still out regarding maintenance or depreciation, desn't mean very much to me.

Please understand that I took my best shot at CR, AFTER their retraction, but it bounced right off. At about USD$4/gallon, I expect some media to realize what we have known right along.

(bump)

An old topic, but with an up-to-date (May 2008) analysis:

Some models were thousands of dollars less expensive, including:

Honda Civic Hybrid ($3,868)
Toyota Highlander Hybrid SUV ($2,765)
Toyota Camry Hybrid ($2,135)
Lexus 400h Hybrid SUV ($1,816)

BCAA = AAA/CAA auto club for British Columbia
PST = Provincial Sales Tax
GST = Goods and Services Tax (Federal)
PDI = Pre-Delivery Inspection (dealer prep work)
