America is sitting on 200 years worth of coal. Just like South Africa during apartheid, they will turn to their coal and use that to make all the oil they need.

With this and the tar sands / oil shales of Canada, Ford bosses are reckoning on there being 500 years worth of oil left in North America. It's just a little bit more expensive and takes a little bit more refining than the black liquid crude-oil stuff they use at the moment.

I'm reckoning there won't be 500 years left of Ford. That's a good thing.

While the gist of the article is correct, it's logic is nothing but bad spin. We could have 99% of the world's consumption and 1% of the reserves, and that still says nothing about how long our reserves would satisfy our consumption rate.
