Default "Bell the Hybrid" - Round II

It begins again:

The lack of an author is the signature of a press release, which sad to say means no fact checking. If this follows the pattern of the Lotus press release from August 2008, we will see this nonsense show up in multiple newspapers around the globe.

The best answer is to address a letter to the editor and ask, "Where are your facts and data?" "Have you had a fact checker verify this nonsense?"

Then point out that the USA National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) held a hearing June 23, 2008 and the record is available at:

www.regulations.gov - search NHTSA-2008-0108-0020 for opposition report

Your key points are:
  • No USA Prius and blind pedestrian accident deaths, yet
  • No NHTSA reports of Prius and blind pedestrian injuries
  • Prius has the same pedestrian accident rate as noisy vehicles
  • 4,700 USA pedestrian deaths and this bleeds safety resources
The key is get them to check the facts and data. Have them call the NHTSA, Office of the Senior Associate Administrator for Vehicle Safety, Debbie Ascone, 202-366-4383. Point out that responsible news sources check their facts and data.

Sad to say but President elect Obama has selected for Department of Transporation, Rep. Ray LaHood, a late cosponsor of H.R. 5734. This will make it somewhat difficult to figure out the best approach. Sad to say, it may lead to a much tougher problem than we had in 2008.
