Default Ethanol supporters unleash attack on Big Oil, Saudi Arabia

Filed under: Green Culture, Legislation and Policy, USA

The ongoing battle between ethanol supporters and Big Oil is headed to Saudi Arabia. Two biofuel supporters, Americans United For Change (AUFC) and VoteVets.org, released a new video today targeting "The Kingdom" for its support of the American Petroleum Institute (API). More interesting, the AUFC and VoteVets say that the API's anti-ethanol "smear campaign" TV ads are funded by Saudi Oil Money. In other words, the gloves are coming off.

Big Oil has come out against the Renewable Fuel Standard and, in response, VoteVets has gotten more and more public with its attacks on oil companies. In February, the group submitted a petition with over 110,000 signatures in support of more biofuels and less imported oil to politicians in DC. With its new video, VoteVets is making a more visceral attack, tying Big Oil's anti-ethanol efforts to Saudi petrodollars. In a prepared statement, the president of AUFC, Brad Woodhouse, said, "They're funneling Saudi Oil money into a campaign to force us all to buy more Saudi oil, and passing it off as American as apple pie. They recently launched a campaign called 'America's Energy, America's Choice,' and by that they mean 'Saudi's Energy, America's Dependence.'"

The 30-second Kingdom ad will get blasted all over the Sunday morning talk shows this weekend in the DC area but you can watch it right now below and read the announcement PDF here.Continue reading Ethanol supporters unleash attack on Big Oil, Saudi Arabia
