Default Ten Cars expected to last 200,000 miles

http://finance.yahoo.com/loans/artic...th-save-31,000

Yahoo Finance explains how you can save money by simply maintaining your car well and keeping it for its full lifetime. It then provides this list of cars liable to let you do that best.

Consumer Reports' "Good bets" for making 200,000 miles: Honda Civic, Honda CR-V, Honda Element, Lexus ES, Lexus LS, Toyota 4Runner, Toyota Highlander, Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Prius, Toyota RAV4
I enjoyed noting that not only was my car, the Honda Civic, first on the list (well, it's probably alphabetical, and it doesn't specify hybrid, but close enough) but the Prius made it, too. So much for those ridiculous so-called studies by CNW, using incredibly short lifetime assumptions and trying to grab headlines by saying the Hummer was greener than the Prius.

Mmmmmmm, 200k-mile-hybrid....

CR says we'll save $30k, so I have two HCHIIs for 300k miles each. Jeez, I'll be a freakin' millionaire!

Man! How'd the Hummer not make the list? Didn't CNW say that hybrids last only 100k miles while the super-green Hummer lasts for 400,000 miles and 35 years?! Ha ha ha ha!!!

One other thing- as the article points out, every car on the 'best ten' list was manufactured by Honda or Toyota. I know a lot of people here have very strong brand name feeling, and I'm often taken aback by the strength of the generalizations that people make about a vehicle based on brand alone, though I know that in many cases there is history that may warrant certain assumptions. Still, vehicle lifetime seems like one of those statistics that can be pretty exactly calculated, has little fudge factor, and may be as close to a purely fair comparison of quality between brands as you can get. My Honda is statistically likely to last a long, long time. And that makes me happy!
