Toyota is studying the feasibility of proving its hybrid-electric technology in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The manufacturer raced prototypes at Le Mans in the late 1990s but pulled out of sports-car racing after finishing second in the 1999 race in order to concentrate on F1.
Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper reports that Toyota is considering using a race car with ultracapacitors as well as battery packs. Given the weight of existing hybrid-electric technology, the study is likely based on one of the GT categories, rather than a prototype.
