Default US House will get EV charging stations for plug-in driving Congressmen

Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Legislation and Policy, USA

US House of Representatives members will soon have access to plug-in vehicle charging stations in their Washington DC parking garage after the government makes good on a pledge made last August to make such stations available to both House and Senate members.

House members can pay either $27 a month or $8 a day to charge their vehicles, the DC government-affairs publication Roll Call reports. No word on either how many House members drive plug-ins or what the Senate payment plans will be.

Unsurprisingly, Republican Senator John McCain, whose wife Cindy has notably espoused the virtues of environmentally friendly sport of car drifting, called the plan a "waste of money" and "an expensive perk for senators not enjoyed by average Americans." We're not quite sure what she means, since workplace charing is exactly what the DOE's EV Everywhere program is trying to do, and for average Americans.

For those keeping track, Washington DC is home to about three-dozen publicly accessible plug-in charging stations. By comparison, Boston, which has about the same population, had 27 stations as of the end of last month, according to the US Department of Energy.US House will get EV charging stations for plug-in driving Congressmen originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Fri, 15 Mar 2013 07:52:00 EST.
