LOW mileage (27MPG)... any ideas?
I accidentally left the fuel cap open a few weeks ago, which caused the check engine light to come on. I quickly fixed the situation, and indicator turned off. Ever since then, however, I have gotten very poor mileage – about 27 MPG on average. This is far *far* below the spec’d MPG. What can be done?

How full is your tank? You might try topping it off and thus resetting the the gauge. Take it out for a nice drive where you can wring good mileage out of it and see if it improves. If it still isn't happy then I'd get it in for servicing...

How long have you had the car? How many miles? What kind of driving are you doing...flat, hills, city, freeway.
If you are relatively new to the Camry and are not driving it any differently then 27mpg is probably 'normal'. Give us a bit more info on your kind of driving and your driving habits.

If I was in your place, before going to the dealer I would disconnect 12 volt battery for few minuttes and see if that helps. Of course I'm assuming your mpg is much worse than it used to be.

You say it's below the "spec'd mpg" as opposed to being below your previous mileage, so I assume you've never had a tank better than 30 mpg? I think the fuel incident is irrelevant. The car, like all cars, will get low mileage if you drive it hard, do many short trips, or run in very cold weather.

What are you using to determine that it is 27MPG?
Last week I noticed that the MPG on my consumption screen (NAV version) was "stuck"
at a particular MPG reading. I had to hit the reset button to fix it.
If that's where you are reading from, maybe yours is stuck, so try to reset it.
Or is your tank average stuck too?
