I watched as a fellow driving a early toyota pickup parked just across in front of me in a walmart parking lot. The older white pickup looked very clean for it's age.
I asked, how many miles on your pickup. 247,000 miles he said. I had to ask how often do you change your oil and what weight do you use. He said ever 3000 miles and he uses 10W-30 dino oil. I overlooked asking if he changes his oil filter that often. He mentioned it don't use oil. My guess at 3000 mile oil changes may not be enough time for any oil usage. I do know all our cars use a little oil to lube the valve guides.
A few years ago I asked a fellow that owned a old Chevy S-10 pickup. His had similar miles, but he changed the dino oil he used every 2000 miles. Said his filter change was ever other time.

My previous car (1995 Chevy Impala SS - 5.7L V8) had 215,000 miles on it when I "retired" it.
It was rated for 5000 mile oil changes. I typically did so, but there were many times I ended up slipping a bit to 6k probably even 7k some times.
No problems at all. Never burned any oil.
3000 mile oil changes went obsolete with carburetors...

The last 2 family cars that are no longer with us went 244,000 miles (totaled in a wreck...) and 226,000 miles (traded in on youngest daughters car). Both of them ran Mobil 1 synthetic that was changed (with the filter) at 10,000 intervals.
Neither one smoked, used oil or had any other oiling problems. The engines looked nice and clean, no deposit buildup and didn't leak. Can't ask for anymore from an engine.
