Default Trunk light (lack of)

I found one other post on this topic, but no solution.
Was anyone able to find a brighter replacement trunk light? The existing light is just about useless! I didn't have any luck finding any, I might just make my own...I figure one or two Cree Q5 LED's in the socket should light up the trunk better then daylight!!

If I remember correctly, I went with either a 921-x12 Wedge Base LED bulb or WLED 6-LED bulb. One of them did not fit. I will have to look tomorrow. It was white. I can try to take a picture tomorrow/later today to show you.

Yes..............the trunk light is a bit on the dim side, to say the least. It must be a very low voltage/(wattage) incandesant bulb due to its' lack of intensity. If there is a LED bulb that will fit or another assembly that will work that you know of, I'd appreciate any info anyone has.

There was one person who put a cathode in there....It should not be hard at all to wire one or two cathodes in the trunk. That would give a TON of light.

I checked mine. I is the WLED-x6 LED bulb from SuperBrightLEDs. I tried to take a picture but my cellphone is not good enough. I will need to get my gf's digital camera.

I tried the 9 and 12 LED bulbs but they did not fit well.

What do you mean by "cathode"? You mentioned that in your other post.
thanks again.

Even though many LEDs are not "brighter" than an the traditional bulb, I do think the pure white color makes a difference. I would not go as far as to say that the trunk is lit like it were daylight, but I do find it bright enough.

The only bulbs I did not change to LEDs in my car were the vanity lights as when one is using that mirror as intended, one would want a more standard light color.

A cathode (or cold cathode) is a tubular light. Similar in a sense to the neon signs you see at stores. You can find them reasonably priced at http://www.oznium.com/cathode-kit. There is also a lot of help and FAQ up on the Oznium site. They also sell LEDs.

There was a photo somewhere of someone who had a Camry with cathodes in the trunk...I think it was on this forum but I am not finding it.

I will snag a photo of my trunk tonight.

I've had similar issues in trunks. I've use these address it.

You have to tap to turn them on and off, which can be a little hassle, but they work well.

Guys,

I have not had the time to replace mine (yet) but the following list is one that I compiled from Toyota Nation out of several posts. I don’t know how accurate it is but no one seemed to dispute the bulb numbers.

If you order from superbrightleds.com

You will need the following:

(11) Total WLED-W6 (194) LEDs (these are wedge base bulbs).

* (2) License plate
* (3) Front map and dome light near rear view mirror
* (2) for rear map lights (if you have a moon roof)
* (2) Left and Right front door valet lights
* (1) Glove box
* (1) Trunk light ( you can also use a #9 instead of #6 to get a brighter light)

(1) #74 LEDbulb for the shifter (if you plan to do this)

If you do NOT have a moon roof

Substitute the following for (1) of the bulbs listed above (dome light near rear view mirror)
(1) 3022-W9 Festoon Bulb 9-LED

For the cold cathode tube install in the trunk, see the following link

He found it! I did not replace the license plate bulbs and I found the 9 LED bulb did not fit well in the trunk (if you desire to keep the cage over the bulb closed).
