Angry What is it with dealers and oil changes?

I made an appointment for my first oil change with the dealer last week. (Rembember my oil poll? Thanks for your input.) The service person said they had 0W-20 synthetic, and there was no synthetic up-charge for the complimentary oil change. So far, so good.

I went in today and guess what? They didn't have the oil. Wassup with that? I've rescheduled and will get an additional free oil change, but still, this is frustrating. Memo to myself: CALL AND CHECK BEFORE DRIVING TO THE DEALER.

I guess the up-side is the dealer didn't say I was whacko, laugh at me, or otherwise berate me for requiring 0W-20 synthetic.

This is what happened to me, and when I shared it with the Inventory Manager on the sales floor while I was awaiting my car's return from the oil change for which I had gone out and BOUGHT the oil... he took a photocopy of the receipt. Then a few days later I got a check in the mail for the cost of the oil, and a note in email saying that the service manager will be certain to stock 0W-20 for the hybrids from now on .

Funny thing: I was thinking of your very post when I was at the desk. In fact, I asked if there was a Wal-Mart around or if the dealer had a runner that could go get the oil. I'm a real cheap-azz and when he said the next oil change would be free, I folded like a house of cards and rescheduled. I'll still call in the morning before I drive there. Thanks for your oil service post, by the way.
