12V, IMA, CEL On with new IMA Battery

Re: 12V, IMA, CEL On with new IMA Battery
Not yet...despite the fact that I have one for every other vehicle I own, I don't think we will be holding on to this car. Might need it though just to get past this mess.

For every diagnostic code, there is a troubleshooting process, and I think you're at that point.
I would double check all your under dash and engine compartment fuses and even go so far as check them for continuity.

Re: 12V, IMA, CEL On with new IMA Battery
Here is the latest.
I bought a 2002 Civic (non-hybrid) for my daughter to use so this car is now in my garage and I am able to trouble shoot it.
I bought the CD recommended, very helpful.
Since I don't have a reader I shorted the OBDII 4 and 9 pins to read the flash codes. First try, IMA code 71, MCM internal circuit issue. I swapped back in the original MCM, reset the MCM and now only have flash code 65 or P1580. I worked my way through the trouble shooting of this code per the manual and always land on "replace battery module."
I will spare the details about using my 1973 BMW 2002 as a 12V battery doner and charger...
I am pretty convinced that the replacement IMA battery I got was no good.
My plan is re-install the grid charger and now that I have time, go through the full charge, discharge procedure.
Not quite ready to purchase another IMA battery as the cost/benefit is not apparent yet.

Re: 12V, IMA, CEL On with new IMA Battery
The P1580 trouble shooting procedure walks you through resetting the MCM and checking specific voltages between the MCM B connector and the 3 pin battery connector while observing the presence of the IMA light. At one point, the step has you pull the 3 pin connector, if IMA light stays off after reset the next step is "replace battery module." That is where I landed.
Yes, I pulled the board off the battery and tested all the components off the board. Everything checked out to the best of my ability.
My guess is that some sticks in the battery are so dead that they are causing codes that are beyond the "battery getting weak" variety.

If that's the case, you can measure all 10 stick pairs on the BCM connector.

EDIT: Nevermind. that's for the HCH2. You can find the same page in your manual.

Re: 12V, IMA, CEL On with new IMA Battery
That will be my next step. I attached the connector diagram for the HCH 1.
Looks like I will need to read voltage as follows
6-14
14-5
5-13
13-4
7-1
1-8
8-2
2-9
9-3
3-10
Will report back when I get a chance to read these this weekend.
Thanks,
John

Re: 12V, IMA, CEL On with new IMA Battery
That looks right based on the Insight and HCH2 patterns.
Note that at rest, these voltages should be in a VERY narrow range - typically less than 0.10V between min and max. Less than 0.20V is probably okay. Less than 0.30V MAY be okay.
A failed cell will show 0.60V or more below the others.

Re: 12V, IMA, CEL On with new IMA Battery
I had the sequence slightly off, for the record the correct pairs are
14-6 12.78 V
6-13 12.95 V
13-5 14.08 V
5-4 14.30 V
1-7 12.88 V
7-2 10.95 V
2-8 12.86 V
8-3 13.18 V
3-9 12.18 V
9-10 13.23
Needless to say it is a mess. I reinstalled the grid charger and will leave it on for 48 hours just to see what happens.
