Default Changing serpentine belt to bypass a/c

Just got a 2004 Civic hybrid pretty cheap, in part due to air conditioner motor seized up. I'm hoping to replace the serpentine belt with a shorter one and bypass the AC. Will this work? If so, any links to a diy on changing the serp belt?

After some digging, I found a diagram of the a/c bypass with a size for the correct replacement belt (398k4). The belt routing didn't make sense to me, since the belt doesn't seem to have much contact with the water pump pulley, but obviously this is how people are doing it. Once I figured out the routing, it only took about 20 minutes to actually change the belt. Here's the link and the routing diagram:
