Default Differences between CVT Fluid

The 2003 Civic Hybrid with CVT with 83k that I recently picked up had a Judder issue so I checked the fluid and it was pitch black. I went ahead and ordered the Honda CVT Fluid but decided to try a few different ones in the meantime and clean out what was there.

The first drain and fill that I did was with the Valvoline CVT Fluid

This improved the judder considerably but it was still there and noticeable so I decided to try a different kind.

The second try was ENEOS CVT Fluid

This fluid actually performed worse than the Valvoline and judder increased

In the end, the Honda 08200-9006 CVT-1 Fluid arrived and I put that in and judder became almost not noticeable. After driving about 10 miles it completely disappeared

Default Re: Differences between CVT Fluid

I have a 2005 Civic Hybrid with 77,000 miles and the judder has been happening for a couple months. We took it in to be diagnosed and both a independent mechanic and Honda service said I needed a new transmission, $3,900 . The transmission fluid was replaced at the time and the juddering is not always noticeable. I am in contact with Honda- national who have refused to lengthen warranty (I am 1/2 year over the 8 years or 150,000 miles. The case manager says he will call by tomorrow to let me know if they will contribute anything to the replacement.
