Picking up an 03 HCH CVT tomorrow!
Well, wish me luck. I'm flying from NC to Ft Lauderdale to pick her up. 03, 128K CVT. 800+miles back home should help me decide if I made the right choice. I'll be babying her home, but what real mileage should I expect if the battery etc is working well? 45? More? I sold Hondas and know all about them, having owned 10+, but this is my first Hybrid. I'll pump up the tires before heading out, anything else to get best poss mileage on a highway trip? Any and all info and advice will be welcomed! Elliot-

I recently drove roundtrip, PA to FL, and managed to pull 62+ mpg over a 683 mile segment using cruise control set to 55 mph and tires at the max sidewall psi. I probably could have gotten better if I had used my foot but I was exhausted from the trip and just wanted to see what the CC could do. This was mostly the flat part of the drive anyhow. Driving down I was maintaining about 65 mph and had a 700 mile segment at 57+ mpg. If you want to see more you can check out my mileage log over on CleanMPG.com

First tank, 49.9mpg(readout) and 592.6 miles! I love it. Pumped the tires up to 41psi(hot) and got 51.0 the rest of the trip! This is better than I expected, I'm very pleased. I went the speed limit, minimum of 65, 60 seemed too slow. Smooth all over, makes it easier to sell our 99 Accord V6 Ex coupe(love the car). Thanks! Elliot-

You really do get used to driving slower it just takes some time. I was a 70mph junkie for years and now never go over 55. Believe it or not you actually will find some people that if they see someone doing 55 they will fall in line behind you. I know they are just looking for an excuse to drive slower and hope that everyone behind them will blame the guy up front. But I feel it is leading by example. Amazing how these last few weeks I have seen more and more people driving slower. Gas prices are having their effect.

That is so true. Not only am I noticing people going slower, but they are doing it in their sedans and compacts, rather than monster SUVs and pickups. The vehicular composition of traffic has greatly changed in the last few months.

Car is still doing well, I'm still cleaning her up to my liking. Still getting 48.8 or better on the readout. Drove over 2000 miles in our 2007 CR-V last week, and saw better than 34mpg on the highway with the tires at 35ish psi. Drove at or near the speed limit, and enjoyed the trip. Mileage took a digger when we hit a hard rainstorm, I've never appreciated how hard a car has to work to plow through rain and wind. Took us under 30mpg for the first time in a while. Have a great one! E-
