2006 Civic Hybrid battery issues

Re: 2006 Civic Hybrid battery issues
Thanks Cali,
That makes sense. It looks like my battery is shot. The moral of the story is to not buy a used hybrid unless it's certified.
Does anyone know where I can get my battery grid charged or deep cycled? That might put some life into it. Or does anyone know where I can get it replaced in the Portland area where it won't cost me several thousand $?

Here is a place located in Portland, OR:
http://www.bumblebeebatteries.com/
I'm not sure if they work on second-generation Honda hybrids, but it couldn't hurt to ask them.

Thanks for the info Gairwyn,
They're working on getting the 2'nd generation batteries. They will probably come in just in time when my battery calls it quits. Knock on wood or metal lol.

Re: 2006 Civic Hybrid battery issues
News on my CH. Two days ago while turning a slight downhill curve at night while charge braking all of a sudden the engine turned off, everything went dark, and the steering got stiff. It lasted for a few seconds and scared the living daylights out of me. Then the car came back to life.
Took it to the dealer and they said I need a new junction box. Whatever that is it'll set me back $1300. And there is also a recall on the software. Also found out that 2006 CHs have an extended 11 year and 280,000km or 175,000 mile warranty on the IMA battery itself. I sure hope that Honda isn't shooting in the dark to avoid having to replace the IMA battery. My car is at roughly 200,000km so I have a bit of time to get a new battery if that's the problem indeed. I'll update this thread once I get my car back.

Re: 2006 Civic Hybrid battery issues
The dealer replaced the junction box (almost $1200) and nothing changed. The autostop doesn't work and the fuel consumption hasn't changed. I'm livid. Will take it back to the dealer and demand a new IMA battery. I'll ask for my money back as well but I'm afraid this will be useless unless I go to small claims court. I really do like the car and it was so fuel efficient but Honda really messed this one up.

Re: 2006 Civic Hybrid battery issues
The Honda service center spent 2 full days and half a tank of fuel diagnosing the car. The technician got several codes, all electrical, one about the brake system, but none about the IMA. However with all the symptoms he finally agreed that a new IMA battery was needed. He spent another half day getting approval. I have my car back and an IMA battery on order. Next week it'll get installed with the warranty. I'm happy but still angry about the $1200 I spent needlessly. I'll have that discussion with them after the battery has been installed.
